Zeynep Erbay – a DJ, producer and conservatoire-trained pianist from Turkey who made her debut on Compost ten years ago but mostly works in radio, hosting the widely syndicated ‘Moodland’ show – comes to Soul Clap with three instrumental or near-instrumental jams that sit somewhere between Balearic, deep house and nu-disco. ‘Escape’ is a meandering, soundtrack-y affair with snatches of spoken female vocal, while both ‘The Train’ and ‘Toxic’ marry punk-funk basslines to synths reminiscent of Kraftwerk or Yello. Both are also, like the opener, on the dreamy side, but ‘The Train’ is probably the best bet for dancefloor play.
