Ford has been a key figure in house and techno for more than two decades. He began his career in the late ’80s with a series of far-reaching acid house releases, before eventually moving on to more subtle, stripped-back aesthetic (his 1992 album BFORD 9 famously inspired Perlon co-founder and future collaborator Zip to leave his band and start producing dance music). Ford also founded the hugely influential PAL SL label in 1996, an outlet that supplied the blueprint for early minimal house and techno with records from Zip (as Dimbiman) and Ford himself.

Ford’s fabric 85 mix assembles a collection of classics and newer cuts. Some of the older selections come from longtime associates Zip and Thomas Melchior, along with tracks by Derrick L. Carter and Pal Joey. The more recent productions include selections from Joy Orbison, Alex Cellar, Julian Alexander and Ion Ludwig. fabric 85 lands on Fabric Records on December 11th.

“The mix was recorded at the Ifach studio right here in London,” says Ford. “I borrowed an E&S DJR400 rotary mixer from a friend and then I just picked a bunch of my favourite records—some were new tracks, some in-house productions and some classics. Then I pressed record and went for a take, a ‘good luck studio’ type of vibe with me trying to capture the moment in the mix.
