Today, James Connolly aka Dance System, shares the latest release from his newly minted label, System Records; the Back To Business EP with UK techno legend Mark Broom.

Back To Business is the second release from System Records, following on from Where’s The Party At?, released in November last year. Described by Annie Mac as “flawless… the only problem is I don’t know which track to play, because they’re all so good” and by FACT as “absolutely slamming, ecstatic party music”, the 20-track collaborative mixtape featured a star studded line-up of artists, including Hudson Mohawke, India Jordan, A-Trak, DJ Deeon, Sally C, Herbert and UNIIQU3.

Continuing the label’s ethos of fun always as precedent; where dance music isn’t constrained by genre definitions or a fear of cynicism, the Back To Business EP perfectly encapsulates this idea of joyful, artistic freedom; seeing Mark Broom and Dance System masterfully circle around both techno and disco on this two-track statement of intent.

On how the collab came about, Dance System explains, “Mark is such a hero of mine! I’ve been playing his music for along as I can remember. I think we both share a love for mixing the dark and light side in our music, and I’m very excited to release this EP, because it explores different areas across that spectrum. Never Ever is a groovy slice of disco techno, where as Back to Business is slamming piece of hard and dark techno funk.”

Mark Broom adds, “I’ve been a long-time supporter of Dance System’s productions and it was a real honour to work with him on this collaboration, I think the two of us have combined well and delivered a couple of funky, hip shaking numbers.”

Never one to shy away to calling out the dance scene, the B-side and title track, Back to Business, is a rework of Dance System’s This Is Business from Where’s The Party At?. Featuring Mike James in the role of a Business Techno DJ playing a plague rave, the track features his hostile dialogue with the crowd.

“This Is Business is a comment on the celebrity of techno, and the shocking scenes I saw last summer with wealthy, big-name DJs playing plague raves across Europe, and now in Central/South America and Africa”, Dance System elaborates. “The blatant disregard for human life is horrifying; especially in poorer countries with underfunded health systems. I have no doubt it directly resulted in deaths and has exacerbated the second wave of Covid-19. But hey, it’s just business and we all gotta get paid, right?”
